How and why to join SUN to help keep your children and community safe
The Schools Unite Network, SUN, is an important Internet-based Communications program activated in cooperation with the NYPD to prevent and address crime involving your children.
Established as a credible source for providing information from the police, SUN effectively uses technology to create a strong community among parents, schools, the NYPD and other agencies for the safety of children.
To participate log onto www.SUNnyc.org and click the appropriate tab: “Receive E-Mail Alerts” or “Report an Incident”
Receiving SUN Alerts:
SUN disseminates information verified by the NYPD. SUN alerts school staff, parents and community members to hotspots on the streets and subways and provides safety tips and resources. It disseminates information responsibly for the purpose of empowering children and parents. Click “Receive E-Mail Alerts” at www.SUNnyc.org to subscribe free.
Reporting an Incident to SUN:
It is equally important for you to send SUN suspicious or criminal activity involving youths enabling SUN to follow up when necessary. Your report is transmitted by SUN to appropriate decision makers in the NYPD telephonically or by e-mail for their prompt attention.
SUN has also significantly strengthened interaction among parents and school staff with law enforcement, resulting in a safer environment for your children on the streets and in the subways. Click “Report an Incident” at www.SUNnyc.org to transmit a report. To send information anonymously, simply omit your personal information.
Visit www.SUNnyc.org to download a safety patrol map with the schedules and locations of parent patrols, crossing guards, and police-patrolled safe corridors and for other safety tips and resources.
The more parents, school staff, and community members who join, the safer our children will be.
